How to set up your sub-recipes

How do I set up my sub-recipes?

A sub-recipe (or "prep recipe") is a recipe used inside other recipes — the pasta sauce, the salad dressing, the dessert syrup, the cocktail mix. It's costed as a whole batch, and the dishes that use it are charged their share.

  1. Create it like any recipe, marked as a sub-recipe, with a name, image and description.
  2. Declare its yield — how much one batch makes, e.g. "makes 2.5 L". This is the number everything else hangs off.
  3. Add its ingredients with the amounts the batch uses, exactly as in a normal recipe.
  4. Save. The batch cost is calculated automatically.

Sub-recipes keep a simpler cost panel of their own — the full profit/margin panel belongs to the dishes on your menu. When a supplier price rise works its way through a sub-recipe into a dish, the dish's cost updates automatically, and it lands in the repricing queue like any other cost rise.
