Open Pantry vs Ordermentum: which is right for your wholesale food business?

For suppliersLast verified 2 September 2026Australia · New Zealand

The short answer

Ordermentum is a shared venue network with payments built into it: your products sit in one app that venues use across every supplier they buy from. Open Pantry is the whole operation under your own name — a branded app on your own App Store listing, AI order capture with a line-by-line review step, customer price lists, pick and pack, delivery runs, catch-weight, FEFO, credits, invoicing and accounting sync. Its published supplier features concentrate on winning and settling the order; ours carry on through the warehouse and the run.

Choose Open Pantry if…

  • You want one system for the whole job — order capture, price lists, picking, delivery runs, credits, invoicing and accounting — rather than an ordering layer plus a separate inventory system plus a routing tool.
  • Your customers should order in an app carrying your name, on your own App Store and Google Play listing, rather than browsing your catalogue alongside your competitors’ in a shared app.
  • The money leaks in the warehouse and on the truck: short picks, substitutions, catch-weight, lot and expiry, credits and returns. All of that is on the same system that took the order.
  • You want to see the price and start at $0 today, rather than book a call and pay a set-up fee before anything runs.

Choose Ordermentum if…

  • Buyer discovery matters: Ordermentum states 50,000 venues and 1,000+ suppliers already trading on its network.
  • You want payments collected and settled through the ordering platform, with retries, credit limits and credit stops.
  • Your customers already order through Ordermentum and you do not want to move them.
  • You want a named account manager and in-person setup and training, which its Medium and Enterprise plans include.

Where each one is stronger

Neither product wins on every row, and a comparison that says otherwise is not worth reading.

Open Pantry is stronger at

  • The whole operation on one system. Pick and pack with short picks and substitutions, lot/expiry FEFO picking, delivery runs with driver navigation and live ETAs, credits and returns, automatic invoicing, inventory, purchasing with automatic POs, three-way vendor invoice matching and margin analytics — all fed by the order that came in, with a feature page for each.
  • Owning the customer relationship: your own app on your own App Store and Google Play listing and your own domain, with no competitor products, sponsored placement or shared search anywhere near your catalogue.
  • Selling fresh food the way fresh food is sold — the same product by carton, tray, kilogram or each, with catch-weight priced on what was actually picked.
  • A review step on AI order capture: every message-sourced order is shown line by line against the original text before anyone accepts it, and unmatched lines are flagged rather than guessed.
  • Published, order-volume-based pricing that starts at $0, so you can begin without a set-up fee or a sales conversation.

Ordermentum is stronger at

  • Distribution. 50,000 venues and 1,000+ suppliers already trade on the network, so a venue you want to sell to may already be on it.
  • Payments as a first-class product — 24/7 processing on customer terms, failure retries, credit limits and stops, and same-day settlement.
  • Demand generation: the Growth Engine add-on markets your products to venues on the network and puts a sales team behind it.
  • Hands-on onboarding — in-person set-up and staff training days, and a dedicated account manager with quarterly business reviews on the larger plans.

Ordermentum

Supplier plans are published by customer count: Small (15–150 customers) at approximately $200 per month plus a $399 one-off set-up fee; Medium (151–700 customers) at approximately $1,050 per month plus a $2,000 one-off set-up fee; and Enterprise (701+ customers) at custom pricing. Switching from Ordermentum to Open Pantry

What the move actually involves. We do not promise a timeline — it depends on the size of your catalogue and how quickly your customers move across.

  1. Import your catalogue. Products, units, pack sizes and images load in bulk from a spreadsheet rather than being retyped — see bulk product uploads and catalogue imports.
  2. Load your price lists. Customer groups, per-customer exceptions and promotions come across as data, so nobody is re-keying a price book.
  3. Invite your customers. Venues get a single-click invite to your ordering app; you can run both systems side by side while they move across.
  4. Keep the messy orders working from day one. Customers who email, text or WhatsApp their order can carry on doing exactly that — AI order capture turns those into draft orders for your team to confirm.
  5. Connect accounting last. Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online is a settings-screen connection once the orders and invoices look right.

Open Pantry vs Ordermentum — common questions

Is Open Pantry a marketplace like Ordermentum?

No. Ordermentum is a shared network where venues browse and order across many suppliers in one app, and it publishes 50,000 venues and 1,000+ suppliers on that network. Open Pantry is your own software: your catalogue, your pricing and your customer list are visible only to you, and on the Enterprise plan your customers order through an app carrying your name rather than ours.

What does Ordermentum cost for a wholesale food supplier in Australia?

Ordermentum publishes supplier plans by customer count: roughly $200 per month plus a $399 set-up fee for 15–150 customers, roughly $1,050 per month plus a $2,000 set-up fee for 151–700 customers, and custom pricing above that. It states those figures are approximate, reflect a $200 per month minimum, and that real charges depend on usage, revenue, customer count and orders. Insights, Growth Engine and Omni AI cost extra. Verified 2 September 2026.

Which platform captures orders sent by email, SMS or WhatsApp automatically?

Both do, with different coverage. Ordermentum’s Omni AI reads PDF purchase orders, CSV files, email bodies and SMS, and lists voice orders as coming soon; WhatsApp is not listed. Open Pantry reads email, SMS and WhatsApp on the Enterprise plan and does not read voicemail automatically. Both create a draft order that a person checks and approves rather than posting it straight through.

Does Open Pantry charge a percentage of each order like a marketplace?

No. Open Pantry charges a fixed monthly plan priced on order volume — Free at $0, Pro from $149 per month, Enterprise custom — and takes no commission on the value of what you sell. Ordermentum publishes monthly plan pricing too, but states that actual charges are based on usage, monthly revenue, active customers and order count.

Can my restaurant customers keep ordering the way they do now if I switch?

Yes. Venues can move to your ordering app when they are ready, and until then they can keep emailing, texting or messaging their orders exactly as they do today — those come in as draft orders your team confirms. Most suppliers run both for a period rather than asking every customer to change on one day.

Does Ordermentum do warehouse picking and delivery runs like Open Pantry?

Not in the same way, on what it publishes. Ordermentum’s order-management features are order-on-behalf, Omni AI, proof of delivery with photos and signatures, freight rules and automation, with route planning offered as a SolBox integration. Open Pantry includes a Pick & Pack warehouse app and delivery runs with driver navigation on the Pro plan. If picking matters to you, ask Ordermentum directly — absence from a website is not proof of absence from a product.

How does each platform handle accounting and ERP integration?

Ordermentum integrates with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online, with NetSuite, MYOB Acumatica and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for ERP, Cin7 and Unleashed for inventory, EDI for Coles, Woolworths and Ampol, and a public API. Open Pantry syncs to Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks Online on the Pro plan and supports ERP integrations on Enterprise.

How often is this comparison checked, and what do I do if something is wrong?

Every claim on this page is taken from the vendor’s own published pages on the verification date shown at the top, and the page is re-checked quarterly. Products change faster than comparison pages do, so treat anything marked "not stated publicly" as a question for the vendor rather than a verdict. If you believe something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
