Connect Open Pantry to Claude or ChatGPT
Quick answer: on the Enterprise plan you can connect Open Pantry to Claude or ChatGPT and run your wholesale business in conversation — ask who hasn’t ordered lately, what’s short for tomorrow, or what you’re making money on, and have it prepare orders, prices and promotions for you to confirm. It takes about two minutes.
Before you start
- Your Open Pantry supplier account is on the Enterprise plan.
- You are the account owner (only owners can create API keys).
- You have a Claude or ChatGPT account.
Step 1 — Create a key in Open Pantry
Go to Settings → Integrations → AI assistants and choose Claude or ChatGPT, then Create key. Choose what the assistant can see for each area. Read is enough to ask questions. Give Read + write only to the areas you want it to prepare work in, like orders or promotions. Copy the key — it is shown once.
Step 2 — Add Open Pantry in Claude or ChatGPT
Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile): open Settings → Connectors, find Open Pantry and choose Connect. If it isn’t listed, choose Add custom connector, name it “Open Pantry” and paste https://mcp.theopenpantry.com/suppliers.
ChatGPT: open Settings and go to Apps (called Connectors in some versions), find Open Pantry and connect it. If it isn’t listed, add a custom connector named “Open Pantry” with the address https://mcp.theopenpantry.com/suppliers and OAuth sign-in.
Step 3 — Sign in with your key
Claude or ChatGPT opens an Open Pantry page on mcp.theopenpantry.com that asks for the key from step 1. Paste it and you’re connected. Try: “What’s on today?”
What it will and won’t do
- It can only see and change what your key allows.
- Orders it makes are drafts. A person places them in Open Pantry.
- It asks you to confirm before it changes anything customers or your books would notice, like prices, credits or order edits.
- It never issues refunds and never sends orders to invoicing.
Your data
When you ask a question, Open Pantry sends the answer to the assistant you connected (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT), and it is handled under that provider’s terms as part of your conversation. Open Pantry keeps a log of which tools were used and when, not the content of your conversations. See our privacy policy.
Disconnecting
Pause or revoke the key under Settings → Integrations → API keys. The assistant loses access within a minute. You can also remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT.
