Sending orders by courier: booking, labels and tracking with Starshipit

Quick answer: Connect Starshipit under Integrations, then give customers you post to a freight rule with the Courier delivery type. Their orders then show a Book courier button that creates the shipment, the label and the tracking in one step.

1. Connect Starshipit

  1. Open the account menu and choose Integrations.
  2. Under Delivery & couriers, click Connect on the Starshipit card.
  3. Paste your API key and Subscription key. You’ll find both in Starshipit under Settings → API.
  4. If you like, set a Default carrier, a Default carrier service code and a Default package weight (kg). Leave the carrier blank to use your Starshipit rules.
  5. Click Connect. If Starshipit rejects the keys, nothing is saved.

Once you’re connected, the card button changes to Manage. From there you can Test keys, change the defaults or Disconnect. Orders you’ve already booked keep their tracking if you disconnect.

2. Get tracking updates automatically

After you connect, the Starshipit window shows a Tracking webhook address. Paste it into Starshipit under Settings → Tracking & notifications. Carrier events (dispatched, in transit, out for delivery, delivered) will then update the order on their own. If you set a Webhook secret (optional), use the same one in both places.

3. Mark which customers go by courier

An order is sent by courier when the customer’s freight rule has Delivery Type set to Courier. Set this on the freight rule and assign the rule to those customers. See Freight rules & delivery schedules.

On the Delivery board, courier orders sit in their own Courier lane. They can’t be dragged into a driver run.

4. Book the courier

  1. Open the order. A Courier delivery box appears on courier orders.
  2. Click Book courier and confirm. This creates a real shipment and label with the carrier.
  3. The box then shows the carrier and service, the Tracking number and the Status, for example “Label printed — awaiting pickup”.
  4. Click Print label to open the label and print it for the box.

An order can only be booked once, and cancelled orders can’t be booked. If the booking fails, the box shows Last attempt failed: with Starshipit’s reason (often a missing or invalid address). Fix the problem and try again.

5. Follow the delivery

  • The status updates as the carrier scans the parcel: In transit, Out for delivery, Delivered, or Attempted delivery if the carrier couldn’t deliver it.
  • If an update seems to be missing, click Refresh status.
  • Your customer sees the carrier and tracking number in their order’s delivery status.

Good to know: the Courier delivery box only appears on courier orders. If Starshipit isn’t connected yet, the box tells you to connect it under My Account → Integrations.
